Troubled Economy Hits Education
COLUMBIA – Columbia Public Schools faces a projected $3.2 million deficit in the new year.
The school board’s first plan to tackle the problem was to levy new taxes, but ultimately the board decided against that. Members say Columbia residents are already struggling to make ends meet.
“We don’t believe that it would be a good partnership for us to ask this community that’s been affected by this economy to dig deeper into their pockets,” said Assistant Superintendent Lynn Barnett.
